Meet the jury for the 11th edition of REX Animation Festival
Nicolas Maurice
Nicolas Maurice is a filmmaker, model builder, 3D animator, writer and print enthusiast. Originally from the north of France, he has been based in Stockholm since 2009. He studied digital directing in Supinfocom, Valenciennes and visual communication at Konstfack, Stockholm. He has collaborated with Story on animated documentaries “Slaves” and “Sharaf”. as well as Tomas Alfredson, Niki Lindroth Von Bahr and Viaplay Studios. His personal work explores themes of memory, queerness, identity mapping and performing.
Laura Almantaitė
Festival director and film producer Laura Almantaitė started her career in the audiovisual sector in 2007 with the Paris-based Media Consulting Group.
Laura has worked on a dozen film projects, both as a consultant and a producer, including documentary, animation and fiction films; she focuses on social topics and international coproductions. She also took managerial positions in several film and culture organizations (as Vilnius European Capital of Culture, Vilnius Documentary Film Festival and other).
In 2014 Laura founded BLON Animation and Games Festival, remaining the festival’s director to date.
She is a graduate from Sorbonne University and holds a Master’s degree in Culture Economics.
Joni Männistö
Joni Männistö is a filmmaker and animator born in 1981 in Finland. After graduating from Turku Arts Academy in 2011 he became an active member of several Finnish animation collectives that work on both commercial and artistic projects. The collective work includes animated films as well as art installations for exhibitions. Männistö has directed films such as The Trap (2008), Swarming (2011) and Electric Soul (2013), which have all been screened at numerous international festivals. His filmography includes collective productions Re-Cycling (2014) and Wormhole (2016), in which he worked as one of the animation artists. In addition to filmmaking Männistö has worked as a visiting teacher at the Turku Arts Academy and he is a co-founder and artistic director of Turku Animated Film Festival. He currently lives and works in Tallinn as a freelance artist.
