The Animation Academy invites you to an evening of film screenings and panel discussions! We are an institution dedicated to practical work in animation, using modern methods while respecting the long tradition of craftsmanship. We want to gauge the state of animation in Sweden, focusing on animated films. What is the perception of this art form today, and what are the conditions for animated filmmaking in our country?
Over the past few decades, the Swedish animation industry has evolved from a niche field with a tight-knit community to a fragmented industry with professionals working in gaming, film, advertising, and comics, spread throughout Sweden. The concept of animation has become so broad that it requires one or more subcategories to understand its scope.
Today, most professionals in the Swedish film animation industry agree that we have fallen behind our Nordic neighbors. Sweden produces fewer successful animated films and has lower representation at film festivals. What is needed to reverse this trend and create a thriving industry for Swedish animators, animation directors, and producers of animated films?
